The discovery of hair toppers.
My first hair topper purchase was a disaster, definitely not cheap, bad hair quality, terrible color and a base construction that looked really fake & wiggy. A thick, bulky and poofy cap, not at all flexible.
I was fooled by amazing marketing skills of a very big brand.
So I did a lot of research and started Hair by V.

Using certain hair extensions after a while can become really painful and annoying, sometimes causing bald spots from the fraction and take time to style and blend with your bio hair. You have to sleep with it and can't take it off to go swimming...
With hair toppers you can make high ponytails and other up do's without the tape, plastic or wefts showing, no more scary windy days as it might show the separation between your bio hair and the extensions.

Color matching
Choosing the right color can be a challenge.
As long as your bio root color matches the topper root color, you can wear a topper that has a different color.
A silk base topper preferably has to blend in with your biological hair, so color matching is really important.
Most pieces can easily be dyed/toned in a darker shade. If you can't find your exact color shade, a tip is to buy a light colored hair piece and then dye it to your exact shade.

Silk base, lace front, lace top, silk top wig, full lace ...
A silk base topper is the most realistic technique on the market today. You gain the appearance of having a scalp that looks like your own, because the roots of the hair on the topper/wig are hidden under the silk base. It is constructed with a layer of lace, and pure silk fabric on the top front of the cap.
Silk is generally more durable than lace. Silk tops lay much flatter than lace tops where a lace top gives more volume. There are some tips and tricks to create more volume in a silk base topper. Air drying it upside down, blow dry the top/front upwards while gently brushing the front.
It is best to take a larger base cap to make sure the clips are attached to the sides areas of the head where some have more hair than on top. It keeps the pressure off of the sometimes thin hair area on top of the head. The weight is divided like that. The clips are just there to stabilise the topper.
It will not fly away.
A topper is not heavy and will not pull your bio hair.
Where gravity in regular clip in extensions may pull on your bio hair, toppers do not have that effect.
Lace toppers/wigs are wigs in which their strands are tied to the fine lace material. This provides a light fit weight. It also makes it looks as if the hairs are growing naturally from your scalp. Once a lace wig is attached, it takes the color of your scalp to make it look natural.
A silk base hair piece lasts longer as compared to the lace top. The lace wig has a sheer nature, which makes it prone to damage easily, however it is more versatile in hight, more breathable and you don't need bio hair in the front to blend it.
Alternative hair might seem scary at first but if you learn how to style and blend it right, it will look very natural. A hairpiece straight out of the box will rarely be a perfect match, every piece might need a little customisation and blending. A change of hairpart, cut, styling…
Give yourself the time to get used to it by wearing it at home at first and make it ‘yours’.
Hair toppers are not cheap but if you compare it to other types of hair extensions on an annual basis, this is a one-time purchase that does not need any adjustment every x number of weeks. The lifespan of your hairpiece depends on how well you take care of it. Make sure to read the care instructions for proper care and maintenance.
